The Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology is the most modern and an only specialized museum of its kind in Slovakia. Within its area of ​​1,400 m2 you will find valuable exhibits such as a cave lion skeleton, which appears among the largest exhibits in Europe, a primordial cult mask, and a meteorite model.

Here you can watch and enjoy the world of nature from underground up to high mountains. Visitors can experience what it is to enter a bear´s lair imitation and try crawling in a cave. Lighting and sound effects complement the exhibits, where you feel like really walking through the woods. You can hear for example marmots whistling and wolves howling.  In the museum attic you can see an exhibition of alpine environment and there is even an imitation of the oldest cottage of the High Tatras – Rainerova útulňa (Rainer´s Shelter)

The basement of the building hides a beautiful exposure of cave stalactites and offers a comprehensive picture of the caves and Speleology. Visitors can get to know the origin and evolution of caves, cave decorations, archaeological findings, historical curiosities, as well as the work of cavers.

Finally, we invite you to our observatory museum from which you can admire the landmarks of the town of Liptovský Mikuláš and a beautiful panorama of the surrounding hills of the Western Tatras, the Choč´s Mountains, the Great Fatra and the Low Tatras.
